VISUAL LEARNERS

The concept of learning styles preferences is based on the recognition that some individuals prefer learning in one way compared with another. In this paper only the visual learners are being analyzed and the important of the multimedia component towards their learning process. Students are able to increase their intellect by using chart, graph, diagram, video tape, color, drawing activity, doodling and multimedia software.
Malaysian institutions do aware of this trend and had takes proactive moves. Several research regarding this learning style is conducted by many Malaysian from various institution such as Abdullah, University Malaysia Pahang; Rusnani and Rosseni, University Putera Malaysia; Syed Jamal and Ahmad Saat, University Teknologi MARA; Hong and Chan, University Malaysia Serawak. These studies shows that approximately 36% of Malaysian students are visual learner who prefer learning with the help of multimedia element.
As stated earlier, a visual learner is person with major preference in learning with the mostly assisted by visualized teaching or learning materials. This person prefers to look and understand rather then reading, listening or doing things on their own. This implies that the role of ICT in the transformation of tradisional classroom into the world of unlimited imagery environment. The authors suggested the key feature to achieve this is designing of multimedia learning environment including the concept of interaction using quizzes, games, and animation. It has been also identified that teacher centered approach within Malaysian is tend to be traditional where student are presented with material and not expected to be active “information seeker”. The visual learner will better understand a subject where it is presented in well designed, descriptions are visualized and in the personal presence and looking at how thing works.
Conclusion :
This visual learner may have minor or minimum impact of other learning preferences but the visualized content or subject delivery will be the most effective learning approach. The teaching and learning of certain topics or content specifically may require some visualized presentation to unsure the learner capture the content and understand. For example to brief the function flow of a human brain system or a computer operating system can be well presented through a visual flow picture rather then a verbal explanation which will be abstract. This implies that this situation should have been used in the planning for students learning activities which includes preparation of modules learning objects.
